As a fellow business owner and mama of two toddlers, I get it.

How often do we stop and put ourselves first?

*cough* never!

After birthing two babies in two years and working my butt off on the business at the same time, 2023 was a tipping point for me. I realised I had done nothing for myself for 3 whole years. 3 whole years!! WTAF!

I had been so consumed with growing humans and growing a business that I actually forgot who I was, the things that I enjoyed doing, what made me smile and laugh. The old Laura had all but disappeared.

I was giving everything to my baby, my toddler, my husband and my clients… and by 8pm each night I was absolutely fried! I had zero left in the tank to even contemplate doing even the smallest or simplest of things for myself.

So by March 2023, enough was enough. I made a commitment to myself that I was going to find the old me again. Surely she was hiding in there somewhere?

I started doing a lot of small daily things for myself, but the best thing I did was booking a solo trip away [in actual fact I booked 3 solo, hubby and kid-free breaks away. Lol] And look, it wasn’t easy. It took some of me convincing myself, before I convinced the hubby and then actually making it all happen. But jeez, it was the BEST thing I’ve done in a very long time.

I spent 9 days in Bali and I could get emotional thinking about the moment I found myself again. I left the villa to go to a local Balinese Healer, which meant jumping on a scooter and heading into the unknown. Sitting on the back of that scooter, zooming through the streets of Bali, soaking up the noises of the locals, smelling the incense and feeling the wind in my hair was the best damn feeling. I distinctly remember a huge smile breaking out across my face as I felt her. She had been there all long, the old me, just hiding. But in that moment, she was back. I was back.

This is not a conference. You won’t have to fight 100 people at the buffet or sit all day in a sweaty room of 100 other entrepreneurs. There will be no name tags or other cheesy group activities.
